The 2019 Devon and Torbay Agreed Syllabus forms the basis of Religious Education teaching and learning at Newport Commnity School Primary Academy. This syllabus explains the value and purposes of Religious Education for all pupils and specifies for teachers what shall be taught in each age group. It provides a coherent framework for setting high standards of learning in Religious Education and enabling pupils to reach their potential in the subject.

Some Religious Education units are integrated into the Learning Explorations where meaningful links can be made and others are taught discretely to ensure full curriculum coverage.

The principal aim of Religious Education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living. As a school, we recognise the lack of diversity in our local community and see it as a key responsibility to develop respect and tolerance of other cultures, faiths and beliefs through our curriculum.
